NORTHBROOK ATHLETIC CLUB COMMITTEE MEETINGS
held by video conference on 7 April
Present:
R. Richardson (President and Coaching Co-Ordinator)
R. Adams (Chairman)
A. Mackness (Treasurer)
T. Hughes (Membership Secretary)
S. Davies (Men’s Captain)
J. Evans (Women’s Captain)
D. Campbell (Welfare Officer)
C. O’Keefe (Welfare Officer)
Apologies – M. Baker (Club Secretary), D Robbins (Social Secretary)
Social Report Daisy was not in attendance, due to her recent birth (many congratulations!)- we will look for a replacement team to organize our social events in the next few months.
Treasurer’s Report – Tony provided us with a breakdown of the financial position. He in formed us that the EA affiliation fees are due soon, amounting to £5,161.
Health & Safety/Welfare – Collette informed us that Sam’s recent presentation at the Club was very well received (this was duly endorsed by Debbie). Another ‘Run Together’ event is planned to take place in the next few months.
Membership – Tim informed us that his ‘hands off’ approach seems to be working, as a lot more renewal fees have now been paid. An e-mail will be sent out shortly to the 50 members who have not yet paid.
He also mentioned that we need Debbie to complete her training as a Health & Safety Officer to ensure that our Club Standards are fully compliant with EA requirements. Debbie has agreed to do this.
Training – Rob informed us that the decision to have the same training sessions for each group on Wednesday evenings is welcomed by most of our leaders and the members themselves.
More support will be found for Spencer’s Monday training session.
The 5k to 10k training program is due to start on 23rd April.
Spencer and Simon have now obtained the Coaching in running fitness qualification.
Captains’ Reports – Jo informed us that we fielded 3 complete teams in the Midlands relay.
By way of contrast, Spencer informed us that it was a real struggle to get our male members to compete in this event- we could not even field 2 complete teams.
The Endure relays held the weekend before were enjoyed by everyone who took part, and we might focus more on this event in the future.
The WRRL starts on 12th April, with the Massey Ferguson 5k race.
Spencer advised that we can now enter 5 teams in the Hilly 100 relay being held on 31st May.
Training Leaders’ Jackets – Rob suggested that we purchase EA training jackets for all of our active leaders, firstly to reward them for their commitment and hard work and also to make them easily identifiable to our newer members. They would cost £55 each. This was approved by the Committee.
Collette also suggested that we post their faces onto the Club website.
Northbrook 10k Race – Tony informed us that 148 entries have been received so far. There was a large distribution of promotional leaflets at the Coventry Parkrun, and this exercise will be repeated at Leamington next Saturday.
We have 3 new sponsors, but unfortunately 2 of our larger sponsors have pulled out, which leaves us £600 down.
Runners of the Month – The winners are Julie Ligget and Stuart Clements.
AOB
- We have decided to buy 2 new cups for the winners of the Parkrun Grand Prix competitions. Bob will attend to this the next time he is in Leamington.
- The small gazebo needs to be repaired, at a small cost of £25. This was agreed.
- All of the committee need to look at Spencer’s proposed e-mail that he intends to send out to the membership about volunteering.
- Jo suggested that we purchase medals for everyone who represented the Club last winter in the Womens Midlands League, as we finished in second place and gained promotion. This was agreed – Jo will look into the details.
- Whilst we recognise that David T did a terrific job as the handicapper last Wednesday, we believe that he should make some allowance for our members who still want to run, but are carrying an injury. Tim will have a discreet word.
It was also mentioned that our faster members need to take more care when overtaking our slower runners. In future, we will adopt the policy of run on the left and overtake on the right. - We need to decide on the dates for the GBU relay and Race the Train at the next meeting.
- A discussion took place about the 5k to 10k training program , as the response to this has been very limited so far. Spencer said that we have had most of our responses via Facebook in previous years.
- Rhys informed us that lots of people have seen our posts – do we need to use alternative means of communication in the future such as Tiktok?
- Rhys will need to stand down in his role, due to his responsibilities as a new father. We need to find as replacement for Rhys ASAP.
Next Meeting – Scheduled for Tuesday 5 May, online.
