Big Bear Trailfest Salcey Forest 50k – 28 June OTH

  Claudie Combelas 06:45:53

Another sweltering day but at least there were beautiful shaded forest trails. Four laps of eight miles each. Great aid station after every lap and half way. Plenty of water. Great marshals. Tough going and my pulled calf muscle and sore hips didn’t help but I made it.

Well done Pat on her marathon too.

Long Course Weekend, Tenby – 26 to 28 June OTH

  Sarah Booker 01:25:00 Swim
    09:00:00 Bike
    03:45:00 Run

I did the famously hilly Long Course Weekend at Tenby at the weekend.

The 9 hour bike ride included lots of chat and snack stops.

RAM 5 Miles, Derby – 28 June 5M

  Jeannie Noonan 00:51:13 1st FV70

Pleasant, slightly undulating course starting and finishing in the centre of Derby. It was cooler than last week’s heatwave but still far too hot for me.

First W70 again (miraculously kept up the record in all events so far this year!)

The Gauntlet Half Iron Triathlon, Cholmendley Castle – 21 June HM

  Tony Bowe 02:15:29 half-marathon

East Yorkshire Half-Marathon, Burton Constable – 21 June HM

  Michael Procter 02:13:37

A warm morning at approximately 19 degrees. Once again I went out too quickly and suffered for it. I recovered with about 4 km to go and finished strongly.

Disappointed with the time but pleased to have finished.

A return to the calender for the pace race hosted by Masseys. A brilliant concept of running "naked". No tech, no timing devices. You set your own prediction and try to match it.

It’s a difficult challenge to achieve as the distance at 3.55 miles makes predicting not a simple process. Then there’s your own pace, normally it’s a race, this time its not. This time you have to have confidence in what you are doing and not get involved in a race. There were plenty of noticeable "walking " breaks, either tactical or enforced by the heat to try to match the prediction.

Gemma was the closest for us, but the overall winner was only 1 second out, bravo. Here’s hoping it stays in the calender – Spencer

Coastal Race to King 50k, West Dean, Chichester – 20 June 50K

  Claudie Combelas 08:59:29
  Jane Ward 09:01:40

After a 4.30am start and drive down to Chichester, I met up with Jane Ward to run the 50K Coastal Race to the King. I still had a very sore calf from pulling a calf muscle at the Big Bear Market Harborough. The aim of the day was time on feet and not aggravating the injury. Jane was running her first Ultra and had been training and planning for this event for months.

The day started drizzly and we set off in the beautiful countryside. All was going well, the aid stations were superbly stocked (lots of GF) and the villages and countryside were beautiful. The weather warmed up and it was hot, humid and muggy. Unfortunately, Jane picked up an injury in her quad and was now in pain. We had to start doing a lot more walking than planned. Nonetheless, on we went until we reached the last third of the run where the really big elevation greeted us. Despite being in pain, Jane persevered and we finished the race back at base camp in bright sunshine, happy with a great day out supporting each other as Northbrookers do – Claudie

30 Adrian Powell 00:48:10 1st in age category

I finished 30th out of 151 finishers and 1st in my age group. A nice early start at 08:30am but the sun came out and it soon got very warm.

Market Bosworth 5 Mile Road Race – 11 June 5M

  Kevin Spare 00:35:47 2nd MV60
  Judith Haley 01:00:38

Second MV60 as I’m now in the meaningless MV70 age group. A great event run on closed roads with chip timing and superb organisation – Kevin

This is a lovely evening race along quiet pretty country lanes, well organised and low cost. An option if you can’t get into the two castles 10K – Judith

Ultra Challenge Lake District 100km – 7 June OTH

  Carly Wood 23:14:23

PCP 50 Miles, Pembrokeshire Coast Path – 7 June OTH

  Karenanne Herbert

The wind was brutal and I took a bad fall. There was beautiful scenery though, when I wasn’t worrying about being blown of a cliff. Although I’m struggling to walk today, I made it – just, beating the cut-off by 10 minutes.

Stanwick Lakes 10k – 7 June 10K

69 Spencer Davies 00:58:59

After a hard week including the rigours of the Hilly 100, a hard week both in work, in the laces and on the massage couch, today was always going to be about supporting a charity/small event organiser I follow, about running somewhere I enjoy and doing something for myself. I managed to accomplish all three and it was nice to run with no time pressure.

A great event in a stunning location. Two laps of relaxation and mind clearing.

Tysoe Windmill 10k – 6 June 10K

  Chris Archer 01:20:17

Unusually, the only Northbrooker there this year. The heavy rain cleared as I returned to the windmill so we had lovely views from the top.

This is a great little race not too far away.

Portland Loop Half-Marathon – 6 June HM

1 Sarah Booker 01:59:26

A half-marathon along the coast trails around Portland, starting from the causeway and going up the cliffs to Portland and round in fairly dreadful weather conditions, even for Portland – yellow wind warning!

A new location at Braybrook Brewery taproom. Market Harbough and Caroline, Claudie and I ran as much as we wanted to for 6 hrs. A beautiful place with a great aid station, and rain. My challenge was to do a half-marathon as I had the Sphinx Summer 5 to do that night as well – Jane
