KYLE TURNER

A hot, hilly trail half-marathon with epic views and a fantastic support network of volunteers. Very well organised and the routes were clearly marked out.

Endure 24 Leeds, Bramham Park – 28 & 29 JuneOTH

I booked this last July after I did my ankle, clearly feeling sorry for myself and looking for something to aim for. I convinced my daughter, who was on a gap year at the time, to be in a mixed pair with me, despite knowing she’d had done no training beforehand. Living at altitude in South America in the month before Endure, surely counted for something? Not having a Spencer to secure the best camping places, I arrived on site at 9.30am on the Friday morning, 30 minutes after the gates opened, to find all the course side spots already take with tents pitched. Not sure how they managed to put them up so quickly! Clearly you need to know the right people.

I spent the day sunbathing whilst watching Glastonbury on my phone, and that paid a contributing factor to my woes. Basically I spent the entire weekend feeling sick, eating virtually nothing and relying on drinks. Long story short, we both managed 7 laps each, 70 miles in total. After putting in a quick 1st lap, I struggled for my 6 remaining laps. My daughter has now got the bug and wants to another one, albeit when it’s a bit cooler. Perhaps worth a Northbrook visit next year.

It’s very well organised with good toilets, showers, food etc. My main gripe was that, unlike Equinox who have mains water, Endure’s water was in huge tanks, so it was warm and plastic tasting – Alan Smith

Andy Clay and I, aka Team Cagney and Lacey, completed the Endure 24 at Braham Park as a male pair. Aiming for LOLs rather that laps the strategy was to run until the fun stopped. The first 5 hours were brutal under very hot and windy conditions. So, after 3 laps each both Andy and I were questioning our ability to keep going. However, we made a sensible decision to slow down, and walk all the hills. Aided by the conditions cooling down in the evening we settled into a steady rhythm. Night time brought a new challenge but we kept plodding on, taking it in turns churning out lap after lap until the clock ticked towards midday.

At 11:45am we crossed the line together to complete a total of 25 laps (13 laps each) for a 7th place finish. For the miles chart that 65 miles each – Rob Richardson

I went up to Leeds to visit some friends so I thought I would take part in the Leeds 10k. It was an undulating course starting Parkinson Steps at the Leeds University, running through the city centre and outskirts and finishing at Millennium Square.

MATTHEW HALL

Well, standing on the start line feeling apprehensive about what lay ahead and off we went, only for my fear to be broken by a fellow runner who introduced himself as Tony and fellow Northbrooker. All of a sudden the nerves settled, so massive thanks and congratulations on your own success Tony.

Managed to snap a picture at Bowness mile 23 with the support crew. Not a PB course by any means but an unbelievable event and lovely part of the world – Matthew

Rasselboch: The Hardwick Hobble Marathon, Hardwick Hall – 14 June M

24 Claudie Combelas 05:33:40

A 7-lap marathon around the beautiful grounds of Hardwick Hall, Chesterfield (former home of Beth of Hardwick). Some lovely woods, fields with beautiful views over the countryside and some hills. The humid weather did make for a tough sweaty run.

Recommended and I’d do it again.

Enigma Running Give Me the Monet Marathon – 7 June M

  Claudie Combelas 04:56:18

CLAUDIE COMBELAS

My third marathon from last Sunday till Saturday. Tired and achy from the fall. The rain came, luckily only for an hour or so. An undulating course around Caldecote Lake, Milton Keynes. Small field but no pressure with 7-hour cut off. Beginner friendly.

Saturn Running Midweek Chasing Numbers Marathon – 6 June M

Running up and down the River Thames path and Runnymede (where Magna Carta was signed). Eight there and backs. I had a nasty fall and bruised my hip and shoulder.

Eight laps around a very hilly and windy course at Gedling Country Park, nr Nottingham, situated on the site of an old coal mine. Very pretty but very tough. Over 3,500 feet of elevation in total.

Very well organised with lovely marshals and a superb food/drink station.
