Isle of Coll Half-Marathon, Inner Hebrides – 20 August HM

A 400 mile drive to Oban and a 3½ hour ferry the next morning at 06:00 started this adventure. We wild camped on the Friday night (nearest loo 10 mins walk) for a 14:00 start on the Saturday.

Coll has a population of around 150 and most of them seem to be involved in this community event. The course was uphill into a strong headwind for the first 5½ miles followed by undulating road, 1½ miles through sand dunes and back onto the road. Tough, but the views were brilliant.

Post race there was a barbeque followed by a very energetic, alcohol fuelled cèilidh. We all loved it – Adrian

Dovedale Dipper – 6 August M

A trail marathon (and a bit) in the southern peaks with a good chunk of elevation gain (course description says 4100ft, though the GPX comes out at 3420ft). A tough but very scenic course. It was always supposed to be a training run for me and, unusually, I was struggling to eat enough, so very much tanked out by the end; pretty much walking the last 4.5 miles. The result was a pretty steady time, but a fun day out all the same.
