April 2021

Shepperdine Marathon – 25 April M

  Sean Duffy 3:34:19 PB
  Kyle Beddoe 3:46:40 PB

Brilliant day for running and an interesting course. 5(ish) miles out, 3 loops of 5(ish) miles and then back in to finish off the race. The sun shone a bit brighter than expected so there’s the odd bit of sunburn on us both but big PB’s for both of us and Kyle smashing the 4 hour barrier for the first time – Sean

Another excellent addition to the Tempo Winter series for 2020/21 with 13 Northbrook AC representatives sporting the sunburst. Natasha White led the way to come home as first female with Cath Fenn coming in as 3rd female. I propped up the field after my 14 mile efforts in the Holly Challenge, while Claudie Combelas didn’t seem to slow down at all having completed the Holly Challenge marathon the previous day – Chris

Oundle 10k – 18 April 10K

16 Matthew Hathrell 0:38:43

Brilliant day for a first race back (both post-pandemic and post-injury). Gently undulating course (with a couple of steep climbs), very scenic and spot on weather for a fast time (proven by the fact that 6 runners beat the advertised course record). My calf held up well, now I just need to work on getting back the fitness lost over the last 2 months.

Leicestershire Half-Marathon, Prestwold – 18 April HM

58 Chris Goodman 1:24:22 PB
71 Terry Moynihan 1:26:02 3rd MV50
125 Tommy Dempsey 1:32:11
146 Mark Baker 1:34:28
230 Tom Miller 1:42:17
316 Jessica Barry 1:48:34 HM debut
446 Kirstie Murray 1:57:31 PB

This was my first actual event in 18 months, so it was good to see other runners again. There were lots of COVID rules in place at the start with only a few runners starting every 5 or 10 seconds. The race combined a car racing track, old airfield and country lanes. Conditions were good so there were lots of great runs. For me, I’m sure it was my best half marathon time in over 5 years – Mark

A glorious day to mark a return to organised events for 7 Northbrookers. A broadly flat course taking in the grounds of Prestwold Hall and surrounding villages. The terrain was interesting taking in deep gravel, road, an old airfield, race track and makeshift mud road. Excellent organisation of the 750 strong field helped everyone achieve good times despite it being slightly over distance. PB’s for Kirstie & Chris, a half-marathon debut for Jess, and good HM times for the rest of us made for smiles at the end of the race – Terry
