NORTHBROOK ATHLETIC CLUB COMMITTEE MEETINGS

held by video conference on 6 February 2024

Present:

T. Moynihan (President)
R. Adams (Chairman)
M. Baker (Secretary)
A. Mackness (Treasurer)
T. Hughes (Membership Secretary)
S. Davies (Men’s Captain)
S. Eason (Women’s Captain)
R. Richardson (Coaching Co-ordinator)

  1. Apologies – S. Duffy (Social Secretary)
  2. Matters arising from previous minutes – None.
  3. Welcome – The committee welcomed Rob Richardson
  4. Treasurer’s Report – Tony Mackness circulated details before the meeting and answered questions about the club balance. Rob Cox will be approached to complete track session payments, as the track’s payment system was not working previously.
  5. Membership – We have 67 members who have renewed so far. ‘Connect My Club’ is the area that members are directed to for renewals.
  6. ‘connectMyClub’ – Roger Ladbury and Tim Hughes are doing a lot of work to tailor this application so it can help the club and streamline communications. However, there is still a transition period of convincing members to use the application. We hope that over time, as more content is added, that it will become the ‘go to’ area for club news. There may be a need to help some members to use the application initially.
  7. Health and Safety Incidents – There was a member who fell on a club training run. They seem to be fine, but the report form must be completed, and passed to the Welfare Officer.
  8. Events – The men and women league cross country races will continue, with the final round of races at Burton Dassett and Worcester soon. The club competed in the Midlands Cross-Country Championships at Leamington recently. The National Cross-Country Championships are at Telford soon. The Midlands road relays are taking pace at Sutton Park in March.
  9. Social Events – The Awards Night is booked for 9th March 2024 at Jaguar. Subsidised tickets will be available soon.
  10. Training – Thanks to all the leaders for continuing to organise sessions. It is encouraging that many new people have expressed an interest in the LIRF course. Rob Richardson will contact qualified LIRF individuals who have been less active recently. Rob Richardson also mentioned CIRF courses. The cost for CIRF is a lot more than LIRF. It was agreed that a framework is needed against which we support CIRF applications – this includes, what percentage is paid up front by the club, and how many sessions are delivered by the individual once they have completed the course (before they get full reimbursement).
  11. Volunteer Recognition – The whistles have arrived for run leaders who organised 25 sessions or more. This was approved by the committee. It was also previously suggested that a ‘roll of honour’ is created to recognise all volunteers. However, as over 100 members have volunteered last year, there is a worry that someone may be accidentally omitted from a list. Therefore, Bob Adams will send out a general message thanking all volunteers soon.
  12. 10k race – The event will be held on Sunday 7th July 2024. The sub-committee have had an initial meeting. Spencer asked if anyone could help with publicity, parkrun takeovers and doubling up at 5km training sessions for new runners.
  13. Runners of the Month – January 2024 – Men: Matt Hathrell (great performances at ultras and leading the team in XC), Women: Joanne Evans (dedication to XC and good Ilmington 10k run).
  14. Any other business:
    1. Veteran of the Year – the committee discussed this award at the meeting.
    2. Voted Awards – A guide list was prepared, but members can vote for anyone. Roger Ladbury will make details available to members soon.
    3. AGM – consider if next year’s meeting is online or at Jaguar.
    4. Running shops – the club agreed to use ‘connectMyClub’ to let members know about 10% discounts at Coventry Runner and Sportshoes.com.
    5. Coventry Half Marathon – taking place on Sunday 28th April 2024.
  15. Next Meeting – Tuesday 5 March 2024 at 7.30pm to be held by video conference.
