16/12/12 | Nobby Northbrook continued his travels by attending the 2012 Sports Personality of the Year at The Excel arena in London. Nobby was accompanied by Mark Baker, and enjoyed the evening. Bradley Wiggins was a deserved winner, but Nobby was disappointed that Mo Farah was not in the top three. Nobby tried to gatecrash the VIP party after the show, but no 'monkey business' was allowed, and Nobby had to leave with his tail between his legs. |
12/11/12 | Warwickshire Road Race League Hat Trick for Northbrook At the end of the 2012 series, Northbrook's Amanda Deavy finished 2nd lady overall and topped the LV35 table, with Sharon Thompson (4th LV35) and Linda Richards (5th LV35). In the LV55 table Anne Hughes and Ros Myers lie 3rd and 4th. Pete Fellows heads the men's V55 table, with Tony Hughes and Robert Simpson in 2nd and 3rd slots. In the team placings, Northbrook Ladies finished 2nd; Northbrook Men finished 7th. In the Vet team placings Northbrook Men were 4th and Northbrook Ladies 2nd. 07/11/12 | London Marathon Club Draw Tony Hughes and Richard Hands met all the crieria, including rejection from the London 2013 Marathon, and were therefore each awarded one of the Club's three guaranteed entries. Four members met all of the remaining crireria, and John Wilson is the lucky winner of the third entry. Allan Walsh is the reserve. Not selected were Linda Richards and Steve Bottomley. The draw took place on 7 November, and entries were drawn by an independent bystander. |
31/10/12 | ![]() Making a return visit to Penkridge to defend the title he won last year at the Staffs Trail Marathon, Mark Baker had to settle for 2nd place after a spirited push by the front runner at 20 miles. Competitors became well-acquainted with the canal tow path as the route comprised 4 laps of an out and back 3.3 mile tow path course. Report and photos ...

27/10/12 | Northbrook Ladies Take 1st at Warwick Northbrook fielded 3 teams at the Warwick Relays mult-terrain event on 27 October, with the Ladies' Yellow Team of Amanda Deavy, Alix Critchley and Lyn McDonald taking 1st place. Also in the 3 x 3.3km ladies' event, Northbrook Green Team finished 13th whilst in the Men's 4 x 3.3km event Northbrook Black finished 21st. Northbrook results ... |

5/09/12 | Summer Handicap Series For the final race of the 2012 series the weather for once co-operated by providing the ideal running conditions of a fine early Autumn evening. Another big turnout of members and guests closed the season, with Club members Jason Brannigan and Linda Richards being first man and first lady home. Corinna O'Connor finished with a 4-point lead over her nearest rival to take the ladies series title. In the men's race, following a revision of the results, Paul Robbins topped the table with a 1-point margin. Athletes were rewarded with the usual fine selection of post race cakes. Series Results |
29/07/12 | Northbrook Thunderers at TR24 The Adidas Thunder Run 24-hour off-road relay race was the home of 23 Northbrookers over the weekend of 28 & 29 July. Arranged into three mixed teams, they relay ran as many 10k legs as they could in 24 hours. Tony Bowe and Dave Faulkner decided to do it the hard way by setting out to run the whole 24-hours as soloists. Amanda Deavy unwittingly strayed onto the hill climb competition section and, running at normal pace, came 9th. Results |
15/07/12 | ![]() Our popular race through the scenic countryside of Allesley and Corley attracted a field of over 400 entrants for its 2012 tenth anniversary staging. Godiva Harrier Harvey Speed won the 10k race in 31:56, with Charnwood's Mark Couldwell 2nd and Paul Andrew (Kenilworth) in 3rd. Kim Fawke (Telford AC) took the 1st lady spot in 35:56 setting a new record for the course. Amanda Deavy (38:14) was Northbrook's first counter, and also 3rd lady. Pete Fellows was 1st Northbrook man and and also 1st M55. Kenilworth took the men's team prize, with Spa Striders taking the team prize for the ladies. 13/06/12 | Northbrook Goes Large at Sphinx Summer 5 One third of Northbrook's Club membership turned out for the Sphinx Summer 5 at Coventry's War Memorial Park on 13 June. The Club's top scorer James Joyce ran a 29m 27s PB; PB's too for many of his clubmates. The event is proving a popular fixture in the local calendar, with 300 entries this year. Northbrook results |
10/06/12 | Northbrook Successes at Two Castles Northbrook's Amanda Deavy was 1st lady finisher at the Two Castles 10k on 10 June., also taking the ladies masters prize. Clubmate Rebecca Smith finished as 3rd lady and took the 2nd prize in the ladies masters category. In the team results Northbrook ladies finished 2nd, with Sarah McNaney completing the trio. 15/04/12 | Category wins for Northbrook at Regency 10k Northbrook members turned out in force with a 26-strong contingent finishing the 2012 staging of the Leamington Spa Regency 10k on 15 April. 25/03/12 | ![]() Northbrook's Sam Anderson secured a place in the Great Britain Age Group Team to compete at the World Duathlon Championships in France in September. A first place in the F25-29 category at the Oulton Park Duathlon on 25 March qualified her for a GB Team vest. Result |
04/03/12 | Bronze for Mark Baker in Welsh Ultra Champs Returning to the Barry track to defend the Ultra-Distance title he won last year, Mark Baker was appearing for the sixth time in this 161-lap track event on 4 March. In less than ideal conditions that knocked out 40 percent of the starters, Mark completed the race in 5h:14m:28s to record a nine-second PB, winning him the bronze medal in the Welsh Ultra-Distance Champs and the 1st MV45 slot. Also making an appearance, for the second time, was Dave Halford who finished in 9th place. Report and results |
03/03/12 | Dave's Trip Up The Thames A journey from Richmond to Oxford taking in 100 miles of scenery along the Thames with views of lots of expensive looking houses and luxury yachts sounds the ideal way to spend a weekend. Dave Fawkner, however, did it the hard way by running the distance through the night in rain, hail, and eventually weather so bad that the organisers decided to abandon the race just after he had reached the finish in 24h:44m. 11/02/12 | Northbrook Men Finish 4th in Bham League Cross Country Season Richard Hodge led Northbrook men home to a 7th place on the day in the final B'ham League race at Stafford on 11 February. In the final placings, Northbrook's A team finished in 4th position, with the B team (also 7th on the day) finishing in 2nd place overall. In the women's race at Cheltenham, Northbrook senior ladies finshed the season in 12th position; the ladies' masters team finished 4th overall. Results |
28/01/12 | Northbrook Take Five out of Top Ten Places at Coventry Parkrun Northbrook turned out in force with a twenty-three strong entry at the popular Coventry Parkrun on 28 January. Their efforts resulted in top ten places for 4 men and 1 lady, plus nine PB's. Mike Wheeler (3rd) was 1st Northbook man home, just pipping James Joyce (4th) making his debut appearance. 21/01/12 | ![]() Veteran Club athlete Jack Langman presented the awards at Northbrook's Annual Awards Night on 21 January. A glittering evening thanks particularly to those who sparkled in their bronze, silver or gold. To complement the many worthy award winners, there was a presidential DVD, super singing from Kevin, some interesting dancing, scrumptious hot food and of course a top quality Bob speech. Winners of the best outfit prize were Joe and Kay Kelly (pictured). All in all a great success, and work has already begun to make next years even better. Awards winners and photos .... |
