02/09/09 Summer Handicap Series
Being one of only two ladies to have scored points in all five previous races this season, Helen Morris braved the wind and rain lashed late summer evening of 2 September to try to preserve her lead over her nearest best of 5 challenger. A race 2nd place for Cath Fenn, and a race 16th place for Helen moved them both the top of the best of 5 column to share the series ladies' title.
In the men’s race, Alan Beeby, with 136 points from 5 races and an unassailable 33 point lead decided to sit this one out. Craig McNaney won race 6, his debut race of the series, but by coming home 5th Tony French moved himself up to 2nd place overall.
Out of the 29 ladies and 77 men who took part in the series as a whole, only 4 ladies and 15 men ran enough races (5) to qualify for a series position.

31/08/09 Club Peak District Weekend in Dimmingsdale 28 - 31 Aug
photo of cabin at Dimmingsdale The club’s annual training weekend to the Peak District over the August Bank Holiday weekend, was another memorable event. 15 Northbrookers descended on Dimmingsdale, a remote cabin hostel, accessed by a very narrow uphill track from the village of Oakamoor.

photo of lake at Dimmingsdale There were plenty of old and new faces, and during our 4 day stay  we counted 5 runs, 2 walks, lots of beer and a karaoke. The many highlights included fantastic runs in isolated scenery, long walks from Waterhouses and Tissington in marvellous surroundings, lots of very English tea rooms, a village fete we stumbled across,Tom Jordan’s  “moondance”  when stung on the leg by a wasp, the ‘king of the mountains’ head-to-head with Jerry Trill on a steep off-road incline, 'The ’Cricketers’ pub at Oakamoor and a legendary karaoke night that extended until 3am, Craig Hanbury falling asleep at every opportunity (and keeping everyone else awake), finding Shaun Flanagan lost in the woods on the way home from the pub in pitch darkness, not to mention excellent home cooking with everyone helping out at the hostel

Thanks to Jerry Trill for organising a great weekend.  Looking forward to next year already.
