11/09/10 | Howard 3rd Brit in Stockholm Northbrook's globetrotting ambassador Howard Andersen took on a field of over 9, 000 to come home 161st in the Stockholm Half-Marathon on 11 September. Not only did he take 3rd MV50 spot, he was also the third British athlete to cross the finish line. Read Howard's take on the race |
31/08/10 | ![]() Catton Park was the setting for the 2nd Adidas Thunder Run - a 24-hour relay race on 31 July/1 August. In their event debut, Northbrook Thunderers Corinna and Sean O'Connor, Cath Fenn, Alix Critchley, James Joyce, John Wilson, Paul Stead and Dave Fawkner covered 290km to finish 9th mixed team and 16th overall out of 196 teams. 28/07/10 | The Good, Bad & Ugly Relay The Good, Bad & Ugly Relay proved a very popular event with 14 teams each made up of 3 people of different standards competing. The winning team of Craig McNaney, Emily Ducker and Rob Pool completed the three 3.2 mile legs in a total time of 67m 25s, 12secs ahead of runners-up Fraser Barrett, Tony Williams and Paul Stead. Brilliant organisation by Mark Baker resulted in less than 5 mins between first and last teams. Full results |
14/07/10 | ![]() Northbrook 10k Race Director Tony French, accompanied by members of the race committee, presented Sarah Darby, Local Fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Care, with a cheque for £1,000 at a handover event today. The organisers chose Macmillan as their major beneficiary of the 2010 edition of the 10k race after the charity supported recovering Club member Adrian Powell through a recent cancer illness. The 2010 race also made donations to Great Ormond St Hospital (£200) and Allesley Scouts (£300). Thanks to all our Club members, sponsors and helpers for supporting the event. |
14/07/10 | Race the Train Booming thunder and the onset of rain were unwelcome travel partners for the 30-odd Club members boarding the 7.18pm train from Tile Hill to Hampton in Arden on Wednesday 14 July. When they met up with the eight who had run from Tile Hill to the start in Marsh Lane, the sky had cleared and all was set for the 10km run back on a predominantly off-road route. New this year was a revised off-road route from Berkswell to Tile Hill, made more interesting by the need for those unfamiliar with trail running to do a bit of map reading along the way. Despite some navigational errors the Club maintained its complement of members. |
11/07/10 | Allesley Festival 5k Unattached Luke Bodycote comfortably won the Northbrook AC staged Allesley Festival 5k in 17m 58s, ahead of Nuneaton's Mark Styles. Lucy Smith of Sphinx was 1st lady in 21m 35s. John Wilson and Lyn McDonald were 1st Northbrook finishers in their respective categories. Complete results ... |
30/06/10 | Big Northbrook Turnout at Sphinx Summer 5 Northbrook's strong showing at the Sphinx Summer 5 at Coventry's War Memorial Park was rewarded with 8 Club Team placings (4th, 7th, 10th, 18th & 21st for the men, and 2nd, 6th & 9th for the ladies). 16/06/10 | Northbrook Track & Field Night The venue was the Warwick University athletics track, and the weather for once was in keeping with the season. As well as the track running competitions varying degress of prowess at long jump, javelin and shot putt were in evidence, plus a world-class leg in the egg and spoon relay. Results and report |

23/05/10 | Early Starters Take 2nd Prize in Hilly 100 Team Captain Alix Critchley got her mixed team of 7 men and 3 ladies off to an early 6am start at the Cotswold Hilly 100 on 23 May. 14/05/10 | Club Social The post-Marathon meal at Cosmo on Friday 14th May was very well attended with 44 people gathering for this 'all you can eat' social event. There was something for everyone with foods from all around the world, including spicy curries, Chinese noodles and sweet gateaux. Thanks to everyone who attended, we hope you had an enjoyable evening. If anyone has ideas for a social event, please send your thoughts to the committee. |
0305/10 | Three Category Wins at May Day 5 Northbrook's Martyn Brunt took the M40 prize at the Coventry Godiva Harriers May Day 5m road race in a new personal best time of 28:45. The event held at Coventry's War Memorial Park on 3 May saw on form Howard Andersen take the M50 spot in 30:20, and Jack Langman winning the M60 category, a tremendous achievement coming just a week after notching up a tenth in age group success in the London Marathon. The recipe for Jack's anti-aging lotion is a closely guarded secret. Results |
25/4/10 | Smiles All Round in London Five of the seventeen Club entrants to the London Marathon on 25 April achieved PBs, including a superb 4h 5m 37s PB for Leanne Trerise making her debut at marathon distance. A recently joined Club member, Leanne is already making her mark, with top scoring perfomances in events such as the Club Handicap. London results |
22/04/10 | City of Coventry Civic Sports Dinner Northbrook AC was invited to this prestigious event, hosted by the Lord Mayor Jack Harrison, to celebrate the contribution to sport of local clubs and organisations. The Northbrook 10Km race was started by the Lord Mayor a few days earlier. The Club was represented at the ‘black tie' event on 22 April by Mark Baker and Andy Houston. Around 90 guests were greeted for aperitifs in the Crypt at St. Mary’s Guildhall, which was followed by dinner in the magnificent historic setting of the hall itself. In this wonderful venue Northbrook shared a table with some local cricket officials giving rise to some interesting chat throughout the evening. After a sumptuous dinner, entertainment from the Coventry Male Voice Choir included music ranging from Rachmaninov to Bohemian Rhapsody. It was a perfect way to end the evening. Guests were invited to make a contribution to the Lord Mayor’s charities before leaving. The invitation is regarded as a superb way to recognise the contribution to sport of everyone at Northbrook. |

11/04/10 | Clutch of Northbrook PBs in Paris Seven was the haul of PBs brought home by the baker's dozen of Northbrook participants in the Paris marathon on 11 April. Clive Horton led the contingent home, Dave Fawkner knocked over half an hour off his previous best and Sean O'Connor chose this "half" as as his debut race afer just 6 months of running. In a personal best time of 2h19m17s Becky Smith set
a new club record for the distance when she finished in 61st position
at the Ashby 20 on 21 March. Knocking over 12 minutes off the previous
record, set by Loretto Denley in 2005, she set a challenging new target

14/03/10 | Northbrook Runners in World's First Ever Kilomathon Northbrook's John Wilson, Corinna O’Connor and Andy Kelsall braved the elements for the worlds first ever 26.2km race between Nottingham and Derby on 14 March and guess what, they all ran a PB. 07/03/10 | PB for Our Man in Barcelona To see the sights of the Catalonian capital generally calls for a 4-day trip. Our man Howard Andersen saw them all in under 3 hours when he ran a much wanted PB in the Barcelona Marathon on 7 March. 13/02/10 | Birmingham Cross-Country League Div 2 Race 4 After the 4th and final race of the series on Saturday 13 Feb at Worcester, Northbrook men moved up to 9th position overall. Paul Andrew led the team home to a finishing position of 8th on the day. Results |
13/02/10 | Midland Women's Cross-Country League Race 4 The prospect of a homemade Victoria Sandwich cake spurred Northbrook Ladies on to an 11th place finishing position in the final race of this season's league on Saturday 13 Feb at Aston University playing fields. As well as bringing the cake, Becky Smith finished as 3rd lady vet, supported by Alix Critchley and Corinna O'Connor. Results |
06/02/10 | ![]() A large, appreciative audience at the Club's Presentation Evening on 6 February joined Club Chairman Bob Adams in congratulating members for their achievements over the past year. As well as recognising running successes both on and off road, several more unusual achievements were also marked with appropriate awards, including the Animal of the Year Award. This year's innovations included the Compass Award, the Wellie Award and the Pudding Award. ![]() The Paul Kelly trophy for the most appearances in Club races over the year was presented for the first time this year, the inaugaural winner Mark Baker receiving the award from Amanda Deavy. Craig McNaney and the Shuffles entertained with live music, while guest appearances from Mr Wonderwall Baker had the audience in thrall, especially to his Why, why, why Delilah. See awards list ...

06/02/10 | Course Record and Top Age Grade for Northbrook In the first of the 2010 Coventry Parkrun race series, Lyn McDonald set a new female record for the course of 20m 12s. In the age gradings from all of the Parkruns all over the country Jack Langman achieved a top age grade of 88.14% for the week. Results |
