This is a hilly 95% trail marathon. It was cold and wet and 28.5 miles long. I loved it.
Timed out at Ambleside, after about 34 miles in 34:46:48.
The Thunder Run is an endurance event with runners competing either solo, in pairs or in teams of five or eight to cover as much distance as they can in 24 hours. It’s run as a relay around a 10k course, off road with plenty of technical bits – running through woods, up and down hills and through fields.
This year it was was mud then mud and then mud mud mud….and the rain never stopped. An epic achievement by all in a quagmire of hillside streams.

The keen ones who ran from Tile Hill to Hampton in Arden station to meet
the train travellers for the Club’s annual off-road outing had a longer
than expected rest due to a 20-minute delay to the London Midland service.
After the short walk from the station to the start point in Fentham Road
Steve, Damian, Jon, and James decided to make a race of it, to see if they
could indeed beat Chairman Bob who was taking the train back to the finish
in Tile Hill. Others meanwhile took it at a more leisurely pace to enjoy
the pure exhilaration of running through nettles and brambles on ankle
turning footpaths on a summer’s evening.
Due to the later than anticipated start and under some time pressure
John Ralph had to bypass the second off-road section and instead took to
the road from Berkswell to the the finish.
The evening finished off in the traditional manner in the local pub – RL

The 7@7 event is an unusual event for the distance alone. Simon and Jill
set the bar high in the morning with the temperature already rising. We
tried to keep that bar high in falling temperature of the evening.
The tactic was to treat it like a 5k and hang on. It worked, as we all
seemed to have a good race. There was a good number of runners taking part,
and a results table that’s slightly confusing to understand – Spencer

The Sphinx mile relays around Copsewood Sports Club is an event that everyone
at the club seems to have embraced. Curious of what we can do over a mile
– Northbrook embraced it. With supporters in tow we had a large number
of members out to show off the sunburst to its true potential.
What resulted was a clean sweep in all of the three categories- three 1st
places and two 3rd places. Every runner got tremendous cheers both from
team-mates and from our supporters to let them know how they were doing. Each
Northbrook vest had an important part to play and we played it to its best.
A great event from our neighbours and well organised as ever.
Well done all – Spencer
