Report: Nathan. <>Nice, low-key, mid-week event that just happened to be convenient to Becky's work, with a flat, reasonably scenic course along the canal towpath, around a water park and then back along farm tracks. A slow start meant I built a twenty yard lead a little too quickly and led all the way, occasionally falling into the trap of racing the lead bike which didn't help my pacing. Meanwhile Becky was overhauled by the second woman in the last half mile and lost out by a second in the sprint finish. Given that neither of us have been training much lately, whether through injury (Becky) or idleness (me), we were both quite pleased with our times. Good barbecue afterwards, with a free burger included as part of the race entry. Definitely worth considering for next year - even the long delay for the results was worth it for the really nice crystal wineglasses we won!

The Midsummer Dream Pub Run.... The Summer Grizzly...Midsummer Madness...The Seaton Beer Run Saturday 21/6/8

Stuart Keen: There are no results for this 'race'....
Everyone is issued with a race number and you have to pay an entry fee like any other race, but the whole enjoyment about the day is that you finish the 'race' as long or as slow as you like!  The other event Axe Valley Runners organise is 'The Grizzly' in March, which is a proper race that has proper results, but with the Midsummer Dream; even though it uses a lot of the off road paths of The Grizzly; it's all about the sheer enjoyment of an exhausting day out with a few beers on route!

Report: Stuart Keen
As this annual event is organised by The Axe Valley Asylum Of Running (aka Axe Valley Runners) you can probably guess that this is not a race to be taken seriously.
In fact, it's not a race at all...no finishing times, placings or prizes...just 19 miles of multi terrain (mostly off road) running round the beautiful Devon countryside...oh, and five or six pubs and a cream tea along the way...oh, and a bbq...at a beer festival on route!
Interested??
Lots of hills, lots of mud and lots of beer (included in the entry fee).
Lots of fancy dress, I went dressed as a Northbrook runner this year, but there were Spidermen, Incredible Hulks, Super women etc ...
400+ runners at the start...outside The Hook & Parrot in Seaton, 200+ running the clockwise route & 200+ running the anti (or clock un-wise) clockwise route, so a rugby scrum start.
It's such a great event and a real laugh, but with very few marshalls and just plastic tape to follow tied onto branches along the way to mark out the route you have to keep your eyes peeled.
I really think there will be a few Northbrookies who will be interested in next year's run, but when the entries open in March (usually the weekend of The Grizzly) you have to get in within the week or you will miss out.
The terrain is very testing in places, but with no rush and a few beers (& a cream tea) inside you, it doesn't seem to matter too much.
This year's event had very heavy drizzle just before the start, but it blew over and the rest of the day stayed dry, mild & overcast...good conditions really.

Report: Diane Keen
We could really have done with Saturday and Sunday's weather swapping places this weekend but never mind as per usual it was great to be part of one of our local greatest races (Northbrook 10k aside of course).
The conditions were pretty warm as you all probably know but the thought of a nice glass of wine/beer and a bbq kept us focused for a greatly supported run.
The start this year was so much better as for the first time we were all chipped so there was not so much shoving and pushing going on for those of us further back.  The crowd support was excellent as the gorgeous weather bought out the supporters in full with hoses to cool us down in various places (on the route not bodily).
The Northbrook entrants did our club proud with great times given the heat, especially from Stuart (not that I am at all biased) who finished an excellent 18th.  We got collared at the end by the BBC CWR radio reporter for a photo and a few words for the broadcast; so thanks (I don't think) for my fellow members pushing me to the front to promote our club.  I can only hope that anyone sad enough to be listening to radio CWR on a Sunday got my message on how great our club is (it was very Briget Jones, so just glad it was spoken and not filmed).
Any way we all had a great time and loved our NEW BLUE medals as opposed to the green ones we have all had for the last umpteen years, and one of our newest recruits Julie had a few words to say to the organisers that Tee shirts should also be available in small!!!
This has been duly noted as others had also mentioned this fact.
Well done to all, it was a great day, hope to see a few more again (Northbrookies) next year.
